it appears Ito be covered with a couple of layers of paint--I think first entirely painted red

it might have been used for holding something live that might have the capacity to jump out

Tiny Antique Carved Wooden Boot primitive wooden animal I’m quite taken with thisI love a little carved shoe or boot, and really love this tiny one, made to hold a handful of matches I think, though perhaps a little pin cushion. To my eye the form couldn't be better, especially the shape of the heel, and simple but perfect detailing for a front flap with vertical row of buttons and a seam across the toe. 1 15 16" t x 1 7 8" l x 11 16" w and in great condition. Stained painted black.
