I was sold on this beautiful little treen box before I even opened it--looking like a very finely turned beehive bank but round and with a pedestal base

Just add a couple of hooks to the back and hang it on the wall

Overall condition is excellent with some paint loss on both sides of the neck of one figure

1850s--often the royal cards in these decks just featured figures

it feels almost like a sampler

Some long and tall whimsies (and some chains, too) were carved from broom handles, as I'm pretty certain was the case here (this one precisely 24 inches in length ) which I really like the idea of, very much a make do sort of carving, the utilitarian mundane transformed, and of course a real whittler
