For an aggressive deck, mono-green has a lot of staying power: Icetill Explorer lets us play more lands, Sapling Nursery creates 3/4 tokens, and Earthbenders Ascension keeps adding more +1/+1 counters on creatures

This got to be confusing (and, it turned out, limited design space), so this would be corrected around Sixth Edition

Decks like Jeskai Control or Boros Energy use Phlage as a grindy finisher thats hard to remove and punishes your opponent each time it shows up

Either you go goblins or you don't and either you get enough of the good ones to have a good deck or you don't
