Contact your healthcare provider if you experience: Persistent or worsening taste changes that do not improve after 2-3 weeks or that progressively worsen despite self-management strategies Complete loss of taste (ageusia), which may indicate a more serious neurological or systemic issue Taste changes accompanied by other concerning symptoms such as: Seek urgent medical care for: Signs of allergic reaction including tongue or throat swelling, difficulty breathing, or widespread rash Sudden, severe abdominal pain with vomiting For patients with diabetes: fruity breath odor, confusion, excessive thirst, or rapid breathing (possible ketoacidosis) Your doctor may need to evaluate for alternative causes of dysgeusia, including medication interactions, nutritional deficiencies (particularly zinc or vitamin B12), oral infections, or dental problems
In most cases, minimal or no downtime occurs, allowing patients to resume their daily activities immediately after the procedure is performed
