European Green Beech Trees The Ohio Buckeye’s native rangeThe European Green Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is a medium to large sized shade tree. It has a dense, upright, oval to rounded, spreading canopy made up of wavy, parallel veined, dark green leaves. The trunk is a strong, central leader that is typically 2 3 feet in diameter, sometimes reaching 4 feet. Its distinctive beech bark is thin, gray, and smooth, providing a nice display in the winter. In the fall, its leaves turn gold bronze. The European Green
